Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry says that 20% of people will hide their teeth when they smile because they are embarrassed by their smile. Plus, over 70% believe that unattractive teeth hinder their professional future. Everyone knows that your smile is the first thing that people notice about you. The best part about dentistry is that we make every smile beautiful and transform lives all at the same time!

Dr. Richards has taken advanced training and is an expert in Smile Makeovers. Smile Makeovers started in 2002 when the Reality TV show called Extreme Makeover used Cosmetic dentistry to rejuvenate lives. Dentistry has never been the same since then.

Dr. Richards listens to how you feel about your teeth and then uses his technical skills to diagnose and plan what dentistry is necessary to transform your smile. As we tell our patients, “you need to have a goal to begin working toward the prize”. Dramatic differences in a person’s smile improves overall oral health too.

A Dental Crown is a tooth shaped “cap” that covers your tooth. They are used to protect a weak tooth such as when decay occurs or after a root canal treatment, to restore a chipped or broken tooth back to its original form, to cover a dental implant, or to hold a dental bridge in place. A crown looks just like your natural tooth and is stronger than enamel. Crowns are frequently used to make cosmetic improvements to a smile.

A Dental Bridge is made when crowns are used to close a gap that a missing tooth has created. The bridge is made up of 2 or more crowns that are fused together and then cemented on permanently. The teeth that make up the bridge look like natural teeth. A bridge is diagnosed to restore your smile if you are missing a tooth, to improve your ability to chew and speak properly, used to change the chewing forces on your teeth, or used to prevent teeth from shifting if a tooth is missing. Cosmetically, a bridge improves your smile.

A Veneer is a custom made, ultra-thin, porcelain sheath that is permanently glued to the front surface of your tooth. Veneers are generally fabricated for the front teeth since they dramatically change your smile overnight.

Sometimes, patients may be able to cover their front teeth with veneers instead of pursuing orthodontics. Veneers are often requested to eliminate the “dark triangles” that appear between teeth, especially on the front bottom teeth. The best thing about a veneer is that they never change in shape or color, so they always give you that perfect bright smile without ever needing to bleach.

Patients often request that we remove their toxic amalgam (silver with mercury) fillings and replace them with white natural looking composite fillings. Composite restorations have glass in them, so they look exactly like your teeth were never restored.

We believe that mercury is toxic to your body, therefore we only use composite materials to repair decayed teeth. After we finish your restorations, you will have difficulty knowing which teeth were filled.

Dentistry is the field where we take art and science and merge them together to help people maintain youthful smiles. If you chip a tooth, we can usually repair with the natural shiny composite material. Sometimes a crown is necessary due to the severity of the chip.

Have you wondered why everyone has such white teeth these days? Well, it is because whitening your teeth is a common practice that is very safe, affordable and permanent. Everyone is a candidate for bleaching since coffee, wine, chocolate, tea, tobacco, age, medications and genetics cause our teeth to darken.

We offer in office tooth whitening with the sophisticated Zoom WhiteSpeed Professional Teeth Whitening system that uses the LED Accelerator technology. This treatment lightens your teeth 8-10 shades in one appointment.

We also offer special customized “take home” bleach trays accompanied with powerful bleaching gel that lets you brighten your smile 6-8 shades in just 2 weeks of daily use.
